Don's Record

Don's Record of Service

When Don Taylor served on the Weston County Commission, he focused on one principle above all others: county government should work for the people.

Throughout his term, Don advocated for greater transparency, increased public participation, and responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars. He believed county residents deserved a voice in decisions affecting their lives and worked to make local government more accessible and accountable.

Bringing Citizens Back Into the Process

Don supported changes that encouraged greater public involvement in county government. He advocated for public comment opportunities that allowed residents to address commissioners after hearing discussion and facts related to agenda items. He also pushed for commission meetings to be held periodically in communities such as Upton and Osage, ensuring residents throughout Weston County had access to their elected officials and opportunities to be heard.

Recognizing that many working residents could not attend daytime meetings, Don proposed evening meetings to give more citizens a chance to participate in county government without sacrificing work responsibilities.

Fiscal Responsibility and Accountability

As a commissioner, Don consistently promoted responsible spending and accountability. He opposed unnecessary growth in government costs and supported efforts to identify savings that could be redirected toward essential county services.

Among the ideas he championed were measures to reduce unnecessary spending, improve purchasing practices, and increase efficiency across county departments. He also advocated for accountability in attendance at required meetings and supported policies designed to ensure taxpayer funds were used wisely and transparently.

Strengthening County Services

Don played a role in establishing the county dispatch board and supported efforts to modernize communications equipment and emergency response capabilities. He understood that reliable emergency services are critical to protecting families, businesses, and first responders throughout Weston County.

He also worked to improve cooperation between county departments and supported initiatives that helped county government better serve residents while maintaining fiscal discipline.

Supporting Growth and Economic Opportunity

As a local business owner, Don understands the importance of a strong economy. During his time on the commission, he supported policies that encouraged business development, infrastructure improvements, and long-term planning designed to strengthen the county's tax base and create opportunities for future generations.

His goal was simple: build a stronger Weston County while preserving the values and quality of life that residents cherish.

Accessible Leadership

In his fourth year on the commission, Don was selected by his fellow commissioners to serve as chairman of the board. Throughout his service, he made himself available to citizens, attended community meetings, listened to concerns, and welcomed differing viewpoints.

Whether residents agreed with him or not, Don believed they deserved honesty, respect, and a willingness to listen. He approached public service with an open mind and a commitment to making decisions based on facts, common sense, and what was best for Weston County.

Ready to Serve Again

Don's record reflects the values he brings to public service: faith, integrity, accountability, and a commitment to the people of Weston County. Those principles guided his previous service and will continue to guide him as he seeks the opportunity to serve once again.
